Is Google is a steamrolling web despot on amphetamines?
Trust issues, privacy concerns, foul treatment of partners and Big Brother is shinning through the seams.
Hostile Takeover
With over three times the search market share of closest competitor Yahoo, Google is careening towards an ever expanding dark empire.
Paid search puts them even further ahead.
In comparison, Microsoft is starting to look like the gentler, softer monopoly of the past.
I Know what You Searched Last Summer
And the summer before that.
And:
- who your friends are
- what you discuss with them by email or chat (gmail, gtalk)
- what you look for in the dark of the night when nobody’s looking [sic]
- what sites you own
- what products you promote
- Generally, more about you than you can probably consciously recall
- What content you watch (youtube)
- What music you may be stealing
Without getting political, does the recent climate not warrant a question such as “what if all this falls into the wrong hands?”
And that’s only if you consider that Google’s hands aren’t them…
You Mean Nothing to Me
Google Slap anyone?
Yes, there are rules. But those rules could stand to be far clearer. Warnings could be issued.
Instead, Google is remarkably trigger happy when it comes to the little guy. They think nothing of disabling your account with only vague cryptic explanations given.
Rules are for Losers
If you’re big enough or popular enough, you can cloak at will (NY Times), spam like there’s no tomorrow (About dot com), dominate search results across the board (Wikipedia) and buy links from Google itself.
To the untrained eye, it may not be clear what’s happening.
That’s why it’s time to take a stand and say no.
No to Web Apartheid
Here’s how this works:
1) Copy this post or reproduce it on your blog in your words
2) Click “view source and grab the links below once they are added”
3) Make a comment with your post url
4) Get your link added here and every other site that participates
5) This site will be updated with new links, as should your page
Bonus points: when linking to Google, use the no follow attribute and / give them the anchor text they deserve: web apartheid.

You all have to read that if you are involved in any kind of seo or Online marketing:
http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/1869/172/
If we now have to compete for ranking with the Search Engines themselves, where are we going??? I guess it’s time for a virtual riot! What if we all pull our adwords publicity at the same time? We could also organize a click no Google ads day… We need to do something before these guy take over the web if its not already too late.
Maybe a good book to read:

Is Ask.com doing Adwords Arbitrage? Is Google allowing them to do so? |
| July 18th, 2007 under General. [ Comments: none ]

Well it looks like Ask.com is going nuts on the advertising budget… 47 million in June only! Well it looks as if they are the biggest arbitrager and that Google is even allowing them to do so. How is it possible? Well I guess you have to be a Google Partner to be allowed to do arbitrage. Another proof of the Google’s bias towards the people that do not follow the rules but brings in a ton of money! Just look at the all the cloaking going on with Google Partners and it will show once again the favoritism taking place with Google’s Partner. The moral of the story is simple, become a Google Partner and you will get a free pass to do what you want and bypass the Google TOS!

Is Matt Cutts running a Unix shell tutorial site? I just had a look at my favorite feed reader (http://www.rssbandit.org/) and just saw a post about a Unix shell session tutorial. Guess what? It was Matt Cutts’ blog! I have always been under the impression that this blog was about Google and for webmasters… Please Matt, stick to what you do best, getting us webmasters to learn more about Google and related topics. Referrals 2.0 launches to all AdSense publishers across the world |
| June 29th, 2007 under General. [ Comments: none ]
|
|
This past March, Google has launched a referrals beta to test the feature and iron out some wrinkles. Now that they’ve finished their testing, they’re pleased to announce that referrals 2.0 will soon be available to all adsense publishers in referrals-supported languages.
While some of you may already be familiar with referrals for Google products, this launch will greatly expand the inventory and functionality of referrals for adsense publishers. Below is a list of a few of the key benefits of referrals 2.0:
- Expanded product inventory: While many of you have had success referring one of our Google products, some of you weren’t able to find a product that fit the context of your site. Referrals 2.0 offers products from thousands of adwords advertisers, so you can find the right ads for your sites.
- Category and keyword targeting: With thousands of products available, it can be difficult to decide which ads will perform best on your site. That’s why we give you the option to refer products by category and keyword. You can narrow down the types of ads you want to display and let adsense figure out which ones will perform best on your site. Whether you want ads for a specific category, advertiser, or product, referrals 2.0 will give you the control to decide.
- Ad unit optimization: It can be tricky picking the best ads for your site, so we’ve included ad unit optimization for referrals. When you create a new referral ad unit, simply select the Pick best performing ads option. We’ll then compare your selected ads to other relevant ads, and serve the ads we expect to perform best on your site.
- Better targeting for pages with multiple themes: With standard contextual targeting, ads may not match up directly with the text around them if there are a number of themes on the page. With referrals, you can select unique “keywords” for each ad unit to narrow the targeting directly to the theme you want. Better targeting means higher earnings for your site.
- Greater compensation for high-quality traffic: Since referrals are paid on a cost-per-action (CPA) basis, your traffic matters. If the traffic you send to advertisers is more likely to turn into a completed sale or lead, you will earn more with referrals.
- Add your seal of approval: Unlike adsense for content ads, our program policies allow you to make specific references to referral ads on your site. If you endorse the product that you are referring, feel free to let your users know. By adding your personal review of the products you refer, you can help your users make more informed choices.
To get started with referrals, click the adsense Setup tab in your account, then click Referrals. If you don’t see referrals 2.0 right away, please check back in a few days, as the feature will gradually become available in all accounts over the next few weeks. Please also keep in mind that for some languages, advertisers are just getting started so ad inventory may be limited at this time.
Here’s an interesting book about search engines:

Adsense Policy updates - and it’s not even Thursday! What a joke! |
| June 5th, 2007 under General. [ Comments: none ]
|
|
As usual… They are updating again! I really like that part:
“We’re now requiring adsense publishers to comply with the spirit of our Page Quality Guidelines. If you’re an adwords advertiser, you might already be familiar with these guidelines, which are intended to provide a better experience for users, advertisers, and publishers alike. If you use any kind of online advertising, know that these guidelines encourage publishers to, among other things, create sites with simple navigation and substantial, useful content. ”
Would it be possible to ask your customers’ opinion first? All of us publishers and advertisers just need to comply, comply comply! We should do a Google adsense protest and do some kind of buy no advertising day and boycott them by not spending a penny on some designated days… I am sure they would ask our opinion next time!
