Is Google going to disable your Adsense account for Arbitrage?
May 19th, 2007 under General. [ Comments: none ]

An interesting thread on Threadwatch has sparked a lot of discussions on Friday about some rumors that goes as follow:

A number of adsense publishers have been receiving emails from Google in the past few days saying that the way they use their adsense account is an unacceptable way of using adsense and that their account will disable on June 1st 2007, giving them about two weeks notice to get ready to loose their account. The good news is that Google will be paying the money earned to those publishers, so they do not need to worry about loosing any income earned so far.

Yeah sure, like they will do that with their money makers… I dont think so!

Publishers are getting what??? Only a couple of weeks notice to ensure that they are not sending traffic to pages that no longer show adsense. It will be quite interesting to see what happens after they implement that, be ready to see their stock drop quickly… I bet you a hundred bucks that Yahoo, MSN and Miva will now get their fare share of arbitragers? We havent seen a Google press release yet nor post on the official blog but rest assured that when it becomes known at large, publishers will start yelling! Lets start a publisher syndicate and show Google who’s the boss… Please comment below if you got the letter or if you think it is a wise/obnoxious move from Google.

Major Riot happening at Digg.com right now - BlueRay Disks Encryption Broken!
May 2nd, 2007 under General. [ Comments: none ]

Wow, what a crazy day in the world of web 2.0 and social bookmarking. A Digg users got banned, stories getting pulled, and finally, Kevin Rose decided to just fight the BlueRay patent owner and keep the code and post on Digg. Here’s the code by the way:

The Verify Media Key Record in the MKBROM.AACS file. It starts with 81 00 00 14 followed by the 16 byte Record. In my case this it at Offset 00000120h. Here is mine:

Code:
81 00 00 14 87 B8 A2 B7 C1 0B 9F AD F8 C4 36 1E 23 86 59 E5 7F 00 00 xx

The first C-Value in the MKBROM.AACS file (also called Media Key Data). It starts with 05 00 20 14 (the 20 14 could be different but is probably the same) followed by the first 16 byte C-Value. In my case this it at Offset 00004376h. Here is mine:

Code:
05 00 20 14 6D 02 CA C6 7B 1A 7E 95 C2 16 EF D4 C9 28 09 CF D3 CE 9A DC

Does my quality score changes when moving Google Adwords campains
May 1st, 2007 under General. [ Comments: none ]

I recently needed to do this for one of our customer and here the Google answer:

Thanks for your email asking if we can move all the campaigns so your client does not lose his Quality Score. At this time, there is no way to retain the Quality Score of a campaign when it is moved to a new account. Below I will provide instructions for moving campaigns to new account and information on what the Quality Score will look like in the new account.

MOVING CAMPAIGNS FROM ONE ACCOUNT TO ANOTHER ACCOUNT With adwords Editor, you can cut or copy campaigns in one account, then paste the campaigns and their contents in a different account.

To copy and paste campaigns:

1. In the tree view, select the account containing the campaigns you want to copy.

2. Click the Campaigns tab.

3. Select one or more campaigns.

4. Go to the Edit Menu > Copy to copy the campaigns.

5. Go to the File Menu > Open Account.

6. Select the account where you want to paste the campaigns.

7. Click ‘Open Account.’

8. Select the account name in the tree view.

9. Go to the Edit Menu > Paste to paste the campaigns.

To cut and paste campaigns:

1. In the tree view, select the account containing the campaigns you want to move.

2. Click the Campaigns tab.

3. Select one or more campaigns.

4. Go to the Edit Menu > Cut to cut the campaigns.

5. Go to the File Menu > Open Account.

6. Select the account where you want to paste the campaigns.

7. Click ‘Open Account.’

8. Select the account name in the tree view.

9. Go to the Edit Menu > Paste to paste the campaigns.

WHAT THE QUALITY SCORE OF A CAMPAIGN WILL LOOK LIKE IN THE NEW ACCOUNT

Quality Score is composed of a number of factors including ad text and keyword relevance and campaign performance. When you transfer a campaign to a new account, you will lose the campaign’s performance statistics. Your Quality Score will still reflect your ad text and keyword relevance, however.
